ICAD joined the international community to commemorate this year’s edition of the world earth day, celebrated under the theme “Save our species”. The central premise is that nature’s gifts to our planet are the millions of species that we know and love, and many more that remain to be discovered. Unfortunately, human beings have irrevocably upset the balance of nature and, as a result, the world is facing the greatest rate of extinction. this rapid extinction of species in our world today is the result of human activity.
The unprecedented global destruction and rapid reduction of plant and wildlife populations are directly linked to causes driven by human activities climate change, deforestation, habitat loss, wildlife trafficking and poaching, unsustainable agriculture, pollution and pesticides to name a few. The impacts are far reaching.
Before the world earth day, ICAD organized three preparatory meetings in her headquarters, where the action plan and activities were decided upon. ICAD later on met with the divisional delegation of Environment and Nature protection as well as the delegation of Forestry and Wildlife, both responded positively, particularly with the delegation of environment, which accepted to accompany ICAD.
On the 21st of April 2019. A seven-man delegation led by Rosalie Tessa (ICAD’s expert in forestry) was deployed at Baleveng, where the holes of the trees were dug, following the advice and mapping by Ms Tessa. Other logistical exigences were being checked.
The day of the event
The activities of the day started at 2pm with the transportation of participants from the meeting point in Dschang (grand stand) to La source orphanage, Baleveng (18km). Because of the distance and the large number of participants, the event started 30 minutes late.
The activities of the day was particularly marked by a keynote speech from the representative of the ministry of Environment, nature protection and sustainable development, Mr Mustapha Brahim (Bureau head in charge of sustainable development).
A.L.E.C.A.J.E did a presentation on the theme of the earth day in two languages.
ICAD also made a presentation on its history and evolution
a presentation was also made on the activities of ICAD.
later on was the tree planting proper.
This event was too remarkable thanks to the effective mobilisation of ICAD enterprise, in collaboration with ALECAJE student, La Source Orphanage, Bonaventure Choir and the press. This event created an enabling environment for sensitization on the protection of species (tree species particularly). Participants were also enlightened on artisanal techniques of environmental conservation and protection of species, ICAD was used as a model-type. The ceremony also had a social undertone as melodic songs were sang by the Bonaventure choir as well as diversed gifts offered to the orphans.
